Muizentrap

From photolens to a light object which difuses light by growing and getting smaller.

December, 2021

I was intrigued by the turning motion of a camera lens. When the lens is being turned all other parts adapt – an unfolding mechanism.

This motion can be translated into a so-called muizentrapje. Personally, the reminded me of kindergarten where they are used a lot as arms or legs for puppets.

I designed a muizentrap light object. 13 wooden frames by 20x20 cm create an interesting and unique shape. Hinges were incorporated and transparent rope prevents the frames from falling or over bending.

Inspired by the lens – he motion of its mechanism allows to regulate the intensity of light while the form adapts along.

Do you have ideas, suggestions or want to see more of this design?
